This fully entitled and permitted live-work project is carefully sited on a corner lot in the historical MULI (mixed use light industrial) Gilman District of Berkeley, California to position the development with street level retail access. Three, three-story live-work 2300sf units are designed to support the artisan community in need of studio and living space. The exterior materials recall light and medium industrial and maker buildings in historic industrial West Berkeley. Commercial grade corrugated metal siding and aluminum storefront windows for the ground floor maker spaces further convey the industrial origins. The roof decks sport an elegant steel and hardwood guardrail, providing an added level interest to the building where it meets the skyline. Commercial grade kitchens with stainless steel cabinetry and countertops permit additional workspace use. Super insulated, low energy heat-recovery ventilation, and on-site storm water filtration are some of the many green features.
