We designed and built the existing structure which was used as an architectural office for many years. It features exposed wood frame construction, clerestory windows, a rammed earth wall as well as a sheet copper roof. Later we converted the office to a studio ADU, maintaining the open floor plan while redesigning the office storage area into a full bath and walk-in closet, insulating and finishing the walls, polishing the concrete floors, designing a full kitchen, and installing new window doors. The handmade Heath clay tile appointed full-bath warms this studio space while the polished concrete floors and open concept, eat-in kitchen create a contemporary and spacious feeling.
